  • Organist, Part-time, Emmanuel Presbyterian Church, Bedford, Texas

Emmanuel Presbyterian Church: EPC is forty-four years old and is a congregation of about 260 confirmed members who worship on Sunday mornings at 8:45 and 11:00 a.m., with church school for children and adults between services. Services are blended in style (contemporary and traditional), which has resulted in the sharing of a variety of instrumental and vocal talent. The Chancel Choir sings at both services the first Sunday of the month when communion is served. On subsequent Sundays, the Chancel Choir sings at the second service only. One service at 10:30 a.m. in the summer allows the choir to enjoy time off. The staff consists of the Pastor, Director of Christian Education, Youth Director, Director of Music, Organist, Administrative Secretary, and Financial Administrator.
Music program at EPC: Music has been an integral part of the worship and life of Emmanuel for many years. The choir, currently numbering 12-16 members, has participated in worship, concerts, and has toured locally and abroad. About ten years ago, with donations from the congregation, hand bells were added to the musical composition. The bell choir currently consists of 8-12 members. A woodwind ensemble, directed by a volunteer church member, performs several times during the year, and various singers and instrumentalists from the choirs and congregation periodically contribute special music to worship. Occasionally, additional musicians are hired for the performance of more involved repertoire.
We are very excited to announce that a BRAND NEW three manual Allen organ with MIDI sequencer was installed in June 2006.
    Specific duties of the Organist:
  • Play for the two Sunday worship services (8:45 and 11:00) during fall, winter, and spring and one Sunday worship service (10:30) during summer.
  • Accompany the choir for practice on Wednesday nights. Ability to lead sectionals at practice desirable but not required.
  • Ability to play varying music styles ranging from classical to contemporary.
  • Play for additional worship services including Ash Wednesday, Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, Christmas Eve, and Christmas Day (when Christmas falls on a Sunday)
  • Special holidays, such as Christmas, Holy Week, and Easter, may require additional practice times
  • Unless otherwise planned, provide appropriate music for the prelude, offertory, communion, and postlude of each service and to submit the selections to the office for bulletin printing.
  • The organist is also expected to accompany for any special music and or soloists during worship.
  • The organist may be invited to play for weddings and funerals at the church and payment for these services is determined between the organist and the hiring party.

  • Salary: Commensurate with qualifications
    Position Available August 1, 2007

  • Director of Music Ministry/Choir Director, Organist, and
Handbell Director, Woodhaven Presbyterian, North Richland Hills, Texas

The Director of Music Ministry is responsible for developing a music program for Woodhaven Presbyterian church that will first and foremost worship and glorify God, as well as complement the liturgy, the preaching, and the spirit of the people. We are interested in finding someone who has creative energy and enjoys working with volunteers who like to sing. While we are traditional liturgically, we are also open to doing different kinds of things in worship within that traditional framework. We are interested in doing more with the music of the Taize community in France, the Iona community of Scotland, etc. We are not completely opposed to more contemporary music, but it has to be sound theologically and rich musically. We work collaboratively here at Woodhaven and are excited to find someone who enjoys that kind of working environment.
This church has one Sunday traditional service. Handbell choir meets on Wednesday night, followed by the adult choir rehearsal.
Please email Coy Donald for more information about this and the other two open positions at this church.
